I was in high school when I first discovered a youtube channel named JCS-Criminal Psychology which uploaded 3 part videos about the Chris Watts case. It is a murder case where a man killed his pregnant wife and 2 daughters. I remembered hearing about the case in 2018, way before the video was uploaded and thought “that man is crazy.”
The videos focus on observing the behavioral responses of the killer, from the available footages of chris interacting with his neighbors, police officers and also his interrogation. The interrogation part was what interests me the most. There are a lot of psychological technique used by the officer to get the truth out of the killer.
There is this technique called reid technique which makes the suspect laid out their story and alibi as detailed as possible so it will be harder for them to lie down the line because they will have a high risk of getting tangled up in their pool of lies. There is also an interesting technique which is perfect to be used on a killer who kinda still have some moral in them and want to be perceived as a good person. It’s a technique where the interrogator is giving them the “lesser act” alternative motives. For example
“Let’s say that you kill them because they treated you bad, you’re a good kid, I know you won’t do something like that without valid reasonings”
“Maybe it was an accident, I’m sure you’re not a cold blooded murderer “
First, those statements will make the killers think that the detective has a high trust on them, that they’re on their side. It rubs their ego, it makes them think “yeah, I’m not that bad of a person”. It will lure them into confessing.
There are many more techniques but I’m too lazy to tell em all here.
After watching those videos, I continued watching his other videos about other cases. From then on, I have a new hobby of watching crime documentaries which focuses more on the psychology of the murderer. Now the OG channel doesn’t upload anymore due to the unpleasant policy of youtube that strikes video containing harmful contents and everything that is leaning towards crime and violence. Despite that fact, his channel managed to create a new genre of videos in youtube and there are many channels who upload similar contents now.
I have watched a lot of criminal psychology videos from other channels too, and i really mean it when i say A LOT. At this rate if you mention about any murder cases, there is a really high percentage that I know about it. Even though I’ve watched countless videos explaining the mindset of those killers, until now I still can’t wrap my head around the reasons of why those people kill another in the first place. I mean life is so much simpler if we don’t kill anyone. Nothing is worth the life of others…
There are many motives that lead to people doing that cruel act. There are people who act on sudden impulses, fully situational, but there are also psychopaths. I once was in too deep on the psychopath lore, i am now sure that if a baby get hit on the head, they most likely will become one.
Because of my (mild) obsession of watching those videos, I have a paranoia that someday I will be doomed into the same destiny as those soulless killers. That somehow i will have the abilities and the guts to kill someone.. but I don’t think so. I asked some of my friends if they can imagine killing someone or not. The answers are quite shocking actually. Some of them said that, yes they can, they even do it often. Some of them say they can imagine killing and torturing people. I’m amazed by their ability to have a strong imagination and strong emotion towards something, but I also feel kinda scared not gonna lie.
The next thing about those videos are, we already know that murdering someone is bad, but letting yourself be interrogated without a lawyer present is STUPID. You can’t be a cold blooded murderer and dumb at the same time, it doesn’t work like that. If you wanna do something wrong, atleast do it greatly. Those killers are so delusional that they think they can outsmart the cops with their stupid answers. Which is to be expected to be honest, because most of the killers I’ve seen have narcissistic personality.
Let me tell you this one important message. If you’re guilty, you need a lawyer, if you’re innocent, YOU DEFINITELY NEED A LAWYER. You can’t consider cops as your friend, no, it doesn’t work that way. Even though they seem like the good guy trying to solve crime and all, you have to remember that ALL COPS ARE BASTARDS.
[TLDR]
I said I can’t imagine killing people, but I can imagine me hiding the bodies. I’ve imagined many scenarios of helping someone to cover up murder. My number 1 favorite is hiding someone in UI forest. Until now, I’m still calculating if it’s possible to hide a body there. If we work at night and it’s raining, I think we can get away with it. Of course we have to dig up a 6-feet-deep hole first to make sure the smell won’t spread after a couple of days. We also need to locate all of the cctvs to make sure there is no track of us entering the forest.
