Spiderman across the spiderverse might be the best movie I have ever watched in my entire life. Its style of animation, the story, the scores and the soundtracks. Well, I am not gonna talk about the movie tho in this post. I guess it’s for another post as the story is still waiting to be continued (can’t wait for 2024). Rather, I put my attention on one of this movie’s soundtrack, Hummingbird by Metro Boomin & James Blake.
When you listen to this song for the first time, you will be slapped by the spine-chilling intro. Surely the best intro to a song (for me). The high pitch and kinda old retro vibes off of it give me a sense of nostalgia to an era I don’t belong to. The rythm and beat of this song is also calming while still giving you an edge with the underlying trap. Personally, although the music itself is soo good, I love the lyrics more than anything

To me, Hummingbird is the metaphor for a lover, for someone who gives color to a somewhat monotone world you live in. The thing is, this person is not meant to stay in your life forever or maybe they are but it will be a rocky road full of wounds and tears to try to keep them. This person show you new thing you never experienced before, that is, Love. They somehow managed to reach the deepest darkest part of your heart that you don’t even know existed. They become the light that guides you through every twists and turns. They make you feel and say things you made fun of your entire life and all of it happened so naturally and so innocently. Life becomes so much brighter, your smile becomes wider and your memory becomes sharper everytime you think of them. They brought back the life you’ve lost.
You are begging them to stay on, to stay with you, but like what i said before, both of you are not meant to be. You finally understand what longing is, what heartbreak is and you kinda don’t wanna let it go. Either you don’t wanna let the person go, the memories go, or you just stuck trying to process what the hell happened. Time goes by and now you’re living your life on autopilot, everything goes fine and you are thriving. The silence becomes your enemy because it is holding so much truth you can’t handle, so many thoughts you try to put in shackles. You grew up listening to romantic and poetic music, you know how beautiful love is, but you don’t know what love is. You understand fully that love will never move past the boundaries you set. You will never be able to abandon all your reasons and just jump in head-first. You can’t brace the fear of having to tolerate. To forgive or to forget and you chose to throw away all that.

I totally just dissociated while writing previous paragraphs. It was all about me, about my views on the topic of love. This is my bad habit, I detach from everything that involves feelings that can lead up to commitment and actual relationship. I always put one of my foot outside of the door just to feel the safety of being able to leave anytime.
