Don’t Short Yourself

This originates from the phrase

“Don’t sell yourself short”

For those who don’t know what this phrase means. I will explain it shortly. When people are buying stocks, they have two options. They can go long or short. Going long means that you believe that prices will go up so you buy the stock in the hope of selling it at higher prices. In contrast, going short means that you believe the stock price will go down, so instead of buying, you borrow stocks from your broker and sell it to the market at the current market price. Once the prices go down, you can buy the amount of stocks necessary to cover up for the stocks that you sold earlier and give it back to your broker.

So the phrase above means “don’t undervalue yourself” or “don’t think that you will fail”

A pretty good phrase I should say. However, I want to add another meaning to it so I omit the sell and simplify it to “Don’t short yourself”.

In electrical circuits, shorting means that a current-carrying path has a very low electrical impedance, thus the amount of current flowing through that path could be excessive.  It can lead to the circuit burning out because now all the energy is being depleted in a really short amount of time and sometimes even cause a spark of flame that will lead to bigger flames and can even burn the whole thing down.

So “Don’t Short Yourself” means don’t undervalue yourself and don’t burn yourself out.

This is so unimportant 🤣
